Hi, Mardi, thanks for the compliment. I actually have never taught children cursive. All of my students came to me already knowing it. I have talked to lots of teachers about it, though, and the recommendation I have heard more than any other is a program called Handwriting Without Tears. You can find it here http://www.hwtears.com/hwt. By sixth grade, as long as they have pretty well mastered cursive writing, I am fine with students beginning to develop their own individual style. On less formal writing that I give my students I write with my own cursive/print combination and I think it's good for them to see it. Somehow I stick with my "teacher writing" on the chalkboard, though. I just can't print on the chalkboard for some reason.

Meredith, you have such beautiful handwriting. Is there a book you recommend for cursive writing when teaching students?

Thanks so much. I'm very inspired by this as I go about teaching my grade 6 child at home. Excited to see your very beautiful examples and your generous thoughts.
