Guest post at The Magic Onions

Hello all!I've got a guest post today about the importance of wonder in the Waldorf curriculum on the fantastic Magic Onions blog Discovering Waldorf series. Click on over and check it out! And if you're a new reader who has found me via that wonderful blog, welcome! Subscribe! In other news, we've been working hard in the classroom since starting our new block. We are taking up the military lawfulness of Rome with our whole beings. Some of the highlights so far . . .

  • Making Roman shields. We're painting them today and I'll post pictures soon.
  • Reading Rosemary Sutcliff's The Eagle
  • Doing our title page border with beautifully shaded black and white illustrations
I've realized more and more over the years how important those little extra projects are when it comes to really giving the children a feeling about the main lesson content. When I think back on my own education the things I remember most were the projects when we engaged with the material in a way that occupied our whole beings. I remember putting together a World's Faire as part of a geography project, dressing up as Amelia Bloomer when studying history, and making a giant eggshell map of the United States for fifth grade geography. These are those magic moments of education when wonder and inspiration can truly take hold and this is just what I want to create for my students.
How have you created wonder for your students? Inspire us in the comments!
