Kindle Unlimited for Waldorf Teachers

I’ve recently had a few friends share their enthusiasm for Kindle Unlimited so I felt compelled to go check it out.I’m a huge fan of reading on my iPad with the Kindle app, so I can get behind the idea of free books for my e-reader pretty easily, but if none of the books are ones I could imagine reading, then it just wouldn’t be worth it.So, checking out the library of free Kindle Unlimited books was the first thing on my list. Now, you’re not going to find the big bestsellers on Kindle Unlimited, so it can’t be the only reading solution for my family full of readers, but there is so much that is available, I found it pretty easy to justify the $9.99/month.Here’s how I imagine using it.

Teacher Prep

I can’t tell you how many times I have purchased a book on my Kindle because I wanted to start reading for my preparation right away. This actually just happened to me when I was at my teacher training conference in Sacramento. While waiting for my flight I really wanted to do some reading about the American Revolution. I knew I had a broad overview book and a specific biography at home, but nothing that was an enjoyable novel-like read. So I went on Amazon, easily justified a $10 purchase and happily started reading. That $10 is exactly the monthly subscription cost for Kindle Unlimited. Do I purchase a book on my kindle at least once a month? Easily. So, when checking the reading options at Kindle Unlimited, “American Revolution” was my very first search. There were so many options, I was completely surprised! I narrowed my search and found that not only was there American Revolution historical fiction, but there was also young adult American Revolution historical fiction!I even found this super-helpful Everything American Revolution overview book.

Audiobooks

Many of the selections on Kindle Unlimited include Audible audiobooks. I happen to already pay for an Audible subscription (which is $14/month) and I’m really bad about using my credits in a timely manner. I tend to let them build up and then when we go on our annual summer road trip, we get a bunch of books and listen to them. But we’re not terribly picky when it comes to audiobooks and it would be just as easy for us to choose Kindle Unlimited selections for those road trips.Okay, now I’m saving money by getting Kindle Unlimited!

Teen Readers

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a couple of avid readers living in my house. Kindle Unlimited will work on any device, you just have to be signed in to your Amazon account. My teens already get a little bit giddy at the idea that they can check out as many books as they want from the library for free. I can already imagine their reactions when I tell them that Kindle Unlimited means they can get free books on their Kindle for free from the comfort of their pajamas (pajamas are probably the only thing they love more than books.)So, I’m completely sold and signed up for my free 30-day trial today. I can’t wait to get browsing, downloading and reading! And yes, as I read back through this post it does sound like an ad for Kindle Unlimited (and those are affiliate links that give me a few pennies if you sign up) but this enthusiasm is completely genuine. I think you’ll get a lot of use out of it!
