Grade 2 Language Arts # 2 | The Saints

$40.00

The stories of the saints are so rich and meaningful — they’re just what my fun-loving 2nd graders needed to make the holiday season a heartfelt experience.

We used the stories of the saints to practice reading and writing, practicing phonics rules along the way. My second graders took some huge leaps in their skill development during this block and I was hard-pressed to keep up with them. This guide will show you just how I did it — differentiating the skill-building work to meet the needs of a variety of students.

In this block, our phonics work focused around long vowels, with the silent e and vowel teams. This guide will show you how to run a phonics program alongside the imaginative content of the saint stories so you can either use the stories and phonics rules I used or model my method and choose your own stories and phonics.

The stories of the saints are beautiful and full of wisdom, you’ll enjoy telling them and finding images that will resonate in your work.

In addition to outlining the activities that you’ll work through in main lesson, I’ve included a wide array of songs, poems and verses that pertain to the saint stories. I have no doubt it will give you everything you need to have a successful saints language arts block.

Here’s what you’ll find in this guide.

  • Day-to-day lesson plans, including stories, new material and suggestions for review activities

  • An overview of the curriculum and how it takes shape in a daily lesson

  • The stories that I told throughout the block (either the stories themselves or links to where they can be found online)

  • A template for making your own practice readers

  • A guide to creating enlivening circle activities, with instructions for crafting your own circle exercises

  • The specific content of the circle activities I used this block

  • Recommended resource and supply lists

The circle activities are seasonal and include poems and songs with an early winter, Martinmas and Christmas theme.

All of this material is delivered through a DIGITAL FILE that you will download after purchasing. The PayPal Express payment option will automatically lead you through the download process. You will also receive a download link in your email inbox after the purchase is completed.

Questions about digital purchases? Email me here, and I’ll answer them.

I’m sure you’ll find this guide helpful. It will get you through this 6-week block and inspire you to find fun ways work with other phonics rules.
